Pre-Swami
This is Race Swami’s pre-competitive program that works with young swimmers who graduated from a swimming lessons program — but aren’t quite ready for a competition-level experience. This group continues the development of becoming water-safe, while learning all the strokes, dives, turns, etc. in a non competitive, fun-centric environment. Most children who join the Pre-Swami group tend to join the Race Swami year-round competitive team after a season or two, but it’s not required. Our Pre-Swami staff’s main mission is to see kids continue to enjoy their experience in the water.

5-20 hrs/week, Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri, generally 3-7 pm
This is a seasonal program (summer) but please let us know if you’re interested in a year-round role.
Responsibilities
Through an approachable and comprehensive curriculum, you’ll help us teach the youngest Swamis how to be champions, in and out of the water.
General Duties
- Instruction: Instruct Swamis through the five levels of Swami Swim School. All levels of instruction will require in-water involvement.
- Safety: Ensure a safe and secure environment for all Swamis and their families.
- Scheduling: We may ask for your collaboration in setting/organizing schedules among instructors
- Culture: Set norms that celebrate the Race Swami values (included but not limited to certificates for students that graduate to the next level)
- Follow Up: Connect with all graduates who successfully graduate from the final Level 5 course for potential Pre-Comp or Developmental Group with Swami
Experience
- Background in competitive swimming or swim schools preferred
- Race Swami will facilitate and pay for all necessary USA Swimming certifications
Compensation
$15/hr or commensurate on experience

Swami Swim School
The Swami Swim School was founded in 2019 with the primary purpose of providing community outreach swimming lessons and water safety for the underrepresented youth of Salt Lake’s west side communities. As we see it, swimming isn’t just about fun, it’s a lifelong safety skill!
With a well-trained staff of swimming instructors headed by Hunter McKenzie the Swami Swim School provides small class sizes of no more than 5 students of similar ability, allowing for a more personalized and effective approach. Classes range from full beginner to those who are just shy of becoming pre-comp swimmers. Lessons are offered at the Granger High School Aquatics Center, with a dedicated lessons facility area that is 12.5 yards in length and no more than 3 feet deep, accompanied with steps for easy entry/exit for all its students. More advanced students may graduate to deeper water in the main pool area. All ages are welcome at the Swami Swim School.
